Scope and Content 

 

This fonds consists of images taken by Robert Hays during his tenure with the U.S. Army 18th Engineers Headquarters and Service Company on the Alaska Highway construction project in 1942.

The various Alaska Highway camps and construction sites depicted in the photographs include Whitehorse, Kluane Lake, Hayden's Homestead, Cracker Creek, Burwash and Champagne.

Also included in the fonds is an eight page letter from Robert Hays to Yukon Archives dated Sept 13, 1976 describing some of his activities with the 18th Engineers in Yukon and seven pages of captions taken from the backs of his photographs.

The archivist arranged the photographs alphabetically by assigned geographic location subject (i.e. community name) with deviations when photographs did not warrant a main geographic location subject.
